Citrus Heights police to increase DUI patrols for Super Bowl Weekend

By Rylie Friesen-
Citrus Heights police are increasing patrols this Sunday, Feb. 2, and are reminding residents to drink responsibly during the Super Bowl.

According to a press release about the upcoming Super Bowl DUI enforcement campaign, the department will be “ready to flag” anyone suspected of driving under the influence. Driving while impaired — including from alcohol, marijuana, and prescription drugs — is illegal.

“If you plan on drinking, plan for a ride home with a sober driver,” Citrus Heights Police Sgt. Shaun Gualco said. “Whether your team wins or loses, you’ll always get the ‘W’ by not drinking and driving.”

Police recommend having non-alcoholic drinks and snacks available for designated drivers at parties. Anyone spotting a suspected drunk driver is asked to call 911.

Funding for CHPD’s increased patrols comes from a California Office of Traffic Safety grant, through the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration.
