Subscription FAQ

The Sentinel relies on subscribers to make our local news coverage possible. Advertising only makes up about 1/3 of our revenue, meaning that subscribers play an essential role in ensuring important local issues get covered. It also means we’re primarily accountable to our readers, rather than advertisers — which makes for better, independent news coverage.

In service to our readers, we’ve created this frequently asked questions page to answer several common questions that come up regarding subscriptions.

How many free articles can be viewed? The Sentinel currently allows up to five articles to be read every 30 days for free. Those wishing to read more articles will be asked to subscribe to help make our local news coverage possible.

Does the 5-article limit reset on the 1st of each month? No, the article counter operates on a rolling basis that resets every 30 days. For example: If you view five articles all on Sept. 5, then you will have to subscribe or wait until Oct. 5th to view more full articles. However, if you view three articles on the 5th and two articles on the 15th, then on the 5th of the next month you will be able to view three more articles, and another two articles on the 15th.

I’m a paid subscriber. Why am I being blocked from articles? If you aren’t logged in when you try to read articles on The Sentinel, you’ll be limited to reading five articles per month and will see a prompt asking you to subscribe.

subscription sign in popup

To sign in: whenever you see that prompt, you’ll see at the top of that page either small text that says “Already have an account? Click here to sign in” or you’ll see a spot to enter your email/password to sign in.

You can also sign in at any time using the link just under the large “SENTINEL” logo at the top of any page. See screenshot below.

I got a new credit card. How do I update my card on file? You can update your card on file at any time by going to: and clicking the small blue link that says “Update Payment Information.” See screenshot below. (You may need to log into your account first).

How do I cancel my subscription? You can cancel your subscription with just two clicks, by going to and clicking the small blue link that says “cancel subscription.” See above screenshot, where the cancellation link can be seen directly to the left of the “update payment” link.

How do I update my email address? If you are a paid subscriber and want to update/change the email address we have on file, log into your subscription account at, select “My Account” in the top right, and then scroll down to Account Settings and click “change your email.” After entering your new email, you will then use that email address to sign into your account in the future and you will also receive our email editions to that account.

Note: If you find that you only receive our midweek editions and are not getting our free Weekend Editions to your new email, you will also want to enter your new email address at the link below. The reason for this is that we have two email lists: one for paid subscribers to receive our extra midweek editions, and one for everyone who receives our free Weekend Editions.

If you want to change your email on file for receiving our free Weekend Editions, click here and enter your new email address. You can then click “unsubscribe” at the bottom of any email edition to remove your old email address from our system, if you like.
