The Citrus Heights Police Department said in a news release last week that additional officers will be on patrol from Aug. 17 through Sept. 5 as part of a nationwide heightened DUI enforcement campaign.
The “drive sober or get pulled over” campaign is funded by a state grant using funds provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Police said in a news release that additional officers will be patrolling the streets, specifically “looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.”
The release said over 1,100 people were killed in 2020 in drunk driving-related crashes, accounting for 30 percent of all traffic deaths in California alone.
“There is never a good excuse for driving after drinking or using drugs that impair,” Police Sgt. Kane Kissam said in a prepared statement included in the news release.
