A Citrus Heights man was arrested after Placer County Sheriff’s deputies found a loaded, unregistered firearm in the vehicle after a traffic stop in an unincorporated section of Lincoln, a sheriff’s release said.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that officers made a traffic stop on Athens Avenue just after 9:30 p.m. on July 10. Police say 28-year-old Tanner Piatte of Citrus Heights and 28-year-old Jesus Gutierrez of Fair Oaks were in the vehicle. Gutierrez was listed as the driver.

No information was released on what led officers to conduct the traffic stop.

After a search of the vehicle, deputies reportedly found an unregistered Glock 23 loaded with 21 rounds of ammunition. The firearm had a 22 round capacity magazine, according to the release.

Piatte and Gutierrez were arrested for being prohibited persons in possession of a firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, and carrying a loaded firearm, among other charges, the release said. Piatte also faces an additional charge of committing a felony while out on bail.
