Thousands lose power in Citrus Heights after truck hits utility pole

More than 2,000 homes lost power in Citrus Heights Tuesday morning after after a pickup truck collided into a utility pole on Old Auburn Road.

A white pickup truck could be seen on the side of the road, near Mariposa Avenue, with its airbag deployed and front end damaged. Behind the vehicle, a severed utility pole was left hanging near the street, pulling wires low above the roadway.

Responding police and other agencies blocked off Old Auburn Road at Mariposa Avenue. A police officer said he expected repairs to take several hours.

The cause of collision was not immediately clear, but police confirmed only one vehicle was involved.

SMUD’s online outage map indicated the collision occurred around 8:34 a.m. Power was expected to be fully restored by 9:40 a.m.
