  • Citrus Heights This Month: what’s happening in March

    Local events and activities on tap this month in Citrus Heights include free film showings, a choir concert, several dinner fundraisers, an Easter egg hunt, and more.

    Here’s a few highlights of what’s on schedule in March:

    ‘Movie Madness’ Inside Out, March 1 — Sylvan Oaks Library will host its monthly “Tuesday Night Movie Madness” at 6 p.m., with a showing of Pixar’s PG-rated “Inside Out” movie. (Link)

    Little League Opening Day, March 5 — The Citrus Heights Little League will kick off the season at Rusch Park with a team parade, barbecue, junior game, carnival games, raffle, and more. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. (Link)

    Mesa Verde Crab Feed, March 5 — A crab feed with a raffle and auction will be held at the Citrus Heights Community Center to benefit Mesa Verde’s “Safe & Sober Grad Nite.” The event begins at 6 p.m. Tickets run $45 in advance, or $55 at the door. (Link)

    REACH Potluck, March 7 — The Residents’ Empowerment Association of Citrus Heights will hold its annual potluck at the Citrus Heights Community Center, with the theme of goal-setting and volunteerism. The event is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m., with anyone in the community invited to bring a dish to share and “enjoy and evening of laughter, good food, and great people.” (Event flier)

    ‘Best of Citrus Heights’ Awards Luncheon, March 8 — Winners of the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce’s business competition will be honored at a luncheon at the Community Center on Fountain Square Drive. The event is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with registration required. (Registration link)

    Coffee, Donuts & a Movie, March 11 — Sylvan Oaks Library invites the community to “bring a friend” and enjoy “a classic movie, fresh donuts and coffee or tea,” with the film on tap this month being Warner Brothers’ “Little Nellie Kelly” (96 min, 1940). The event is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. and conclude by 3:15 p.m. (Link)
    County Supervisor Candidate Debate, March 15 -- Candidates for Sacramento County Supervisor District 4, which covers Citrus Heights, have been invited to a debate hosted by the Folsom Chamber of Commerce at the Harris Center. The debate is open to the public and will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., at 10 College Parkway in Folsom. (Link) [follow text="Follow local events:"] Education Documentary, March 15 -- A documentary exploring education in the modern world will be shown at the San Juan High School Theater, followed by a panel discussion. The free showing of "Most likely to succeed" is put on by the San Juan Unified School District's office of Community Relations, and is scheduled for 6 p.m. at 7551 Greenback Ln. (Movie trailer) (Register) Spaghetti Fundraiser, March 19 -- The Citrus Heights Community Marching Band will hold its annual Spaghetti Feed fundraiser at the Community Center, beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets are limited, and the event has sold out in the past. Choir Concert, March 19 -- The Minnesota-based Martin Luther College Choir will hold a concert at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Citrus Heights, during a 10-day tour of Nevada, Arizona and California. The concert is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at 7869 Kingswood Dr. Community Meeting, March 25 -- County Sup. Roberta MacGlashan is scheduled to hold a “community cabinet” meeting at the Denny’s restaurant on Sunrise Boulevard near Greenback Lane. The supervisor’s monthly meetings are held at 7:30 a.m. on the fourth Friday of most months, and typically feature a guest speaker and a county government update from MacGlashan. Easter Egg Hunt, March 26 -- The Kiwanis Club of Citrus Heights will hold its annual Easter egg hunt at Rusch Park from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the community.     Citrus Heights This Month: what’s happening in February

    February events around Citrus Heights include fundraisers, several police-related events, crab feeds, “Beer Week,” and more. Here’s some highlights of local events on schedule this month:

    Police blackjack fundraiser, Feb. 4– A “Blackjack Tournament Fundraiser” at Stones Casino will help raise funds to send a team of officers on a 120-mile foot race through the desert, known as “Baker 2 Vegas.” The blackjack event will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a $40 buy-in and 112-player limit. According to a flier, there will be grand prizes, a silent auction, appetizers, and non-alcoholic drinks included. (Read more)

    Crime Alert Crab Feed, Feb. 6– Sacramento Crime Alert will host a crab and tri-tip feed at the Citrus Heights Community Center, with cocktails beginning at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. The group says the $60 tickets are limited and sold on a first-come first-serve basis, with all food and drinks included.     Citrus Heights Water District board meeting, Feb. 9– CHWD’s board of directors are scheduled to approve several financial reports for Dec. 2015 and Jan. 2016, as well as receive information about adding an additional office to the District’s administration building. The Board will also hear a “Water Efficiency Update,” regarding the status of the District’s Drought Response Plan and updated State regulations. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., at 6230 Sylvan Rd.     Coffee with a Cop, Feb. 10– The Citrus Heights Police Department is inviting community members to “enjoy a cup of coffee with some of Citrus Heights’ finest” at Starbucks, inside Barnes & Noble at 6111 Sunrise Blvd. An invite flier on CHPD’s Twitter account says attendees will have a chance to “hang out,” share stories, and talk with officers. The event is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (See flier)

    Firefighter Fundraiser: ‘Fill the Boot for Burns’, Feb. 11-14– Firefighters plan to hit the streets and fill their boots with donations at Sunrise Boulevard and Greenback Lane this President’s Day weekend, for the 22nd annual “Fill the Boot for Burns” fundraiser in Citrus Heights. The annual event reportedly raised over $100,000 last year for a local burn institute.

    Small business workshop, Feb. 11– A free class on “How to Improve your Business through Technology” will be held at the Small Business Administration building in Citrus Heights. The class is hosted by the local chapter of SCORE, a business mentorship nonprofit. The class will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 6501 Sylvan Rd. (Registration link)
    Performance at Mesa Verde, Feb. 11-20-- The Alternative Arts Collective will be performing a production of "August: Osage County," in the Mesa Verde Performing Arts Center on Carriage Drive in Citrus Heights. Tickets run $15, with various 8 p.m. showings scheduled between Feb. 11 and Feb. 20. (Read more) Rotary Club Crab Feed, Feb. 13-- The Rotary Club of Citrus Heights will hold its 28th annual Crab Feed at the Citrus Heights Community Center, with entertainment, dinner, dancing and auctions. The Saturday event will be from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets run $50. (See more) Organ concert, Feb. 14-- An organ recital will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Citrus Heights, featuring Washington-based Organist David Kriewall. The concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the church, located at 7869 Kingswood Dr. (See more) "Best of Citrus Heights" business voting ends, Feb. 15-- Annual online voting for the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce’s “Best of Citrus Heights” business awards will conclude on Monday, Feb. 15. The annual competition is designed by the Chamber to celebrate “the best business members in good standing of the Citrus Heights Chamber.” [Learn more: Voting underway to select ‘Best of Citrus Heights’ businesses] Deadline for History & Arts Commission apps, Feb. 16-- An application period to fill a vacancy on the seven-member History and Arts Commission of Citrus Heights will close on Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. According to the City website, the Commission exists to preserve and promote the City's historic resources, as well as foster programs for the arts and encourage community involvement in events. On schedule are various competitions, "tap take-overs," beer trivia, and prizes.
