A busy weekend is ahead for Citrus Heights event-goers this week, with upcoming events including a “Brews & Boos” concert, craft fair, art displays and more. Here’s what’s happening:
MONDAY, Oct. 12 –
Columbus Day. Post offices will be closed in observance of the federal holiday, although City offices will be open, according to the City’s online calendar.
TUESDAY, Oct. 13 –
Water District meeting. The Citrus Heights Water District will hold its monthly board of directors meeting, with items on the agenda including a “Drought Response Plan Update” presentation and a call for a public hearing to take place on Nov. 17 regarding the District’s proposed water rate increase for 2016. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the District’s newly expanded and renovated administration offices at 6230 Sylvan Rd. (See agenda)
FRIDAY, Oct. 16 –
Brews & Boos Concert. A free Capitol POPS Concert sponsored by the City of Citrus Heights will feature “a festive party atmosphere with food and drink for sale, raffle prizes up for bid and lots of fun.” Organizers say German and Halloween costumes are encouraged. The concert will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Community Center on Fountain Square Drive.
Craft Fair. Holiday-themed crafts, baked goods and hot chili will be on sale at Messiah Lutheran Church’s “Christmas Craft Fair” on Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The church is located at 7801 Rosswood Dr., just off Antelope Road. (See flier)
SATURDAY, Oct. 17 –
Veterans art display. A gallery of veterans art previously on display at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. will be on display in Citrus Heights from Oct. 17 through Veterans Day. According to the Citrus Heights History & Arts Commission, opening ceremonies will take place at 11 a.m. on Oct. 17, at 5925 Birdcage Centre Ln., D102 (behind Ulta). The free display will be open daily, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (See more)
Police Pasta Feed. The Citrus Heights Police Activities League will team up with the Folsom Police Foundation to host their 2nd annual pasta feed, helping raise funds to send a team of officers on a 120-mile “Baker to Vegas” foot race through the desert. The Saturday event will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Parish Hall in Folsom. (See full story)
Hazardous Waste Drop-off. Citrus Heights residents will have their final of three annual opportunities to dispose of hazardous items like paint, cleaning supplies, vehicle batteries and fluorescent light bulbs, at a free event held behind in the Sunrise Mall parking lot behind Macy’s. The event will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. (See full story)

Living History Day at the Rusch Home. Community members are invited to “come back in time to 1924 and see what life was like in Citrus Heights,” with a day of guided tours through the historic Rusch Home and grounds. Tours are $10 and will be offered every half hour on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing until the final tour at 2:30 p.m. (Registration link)
Spooktacular. The annual Halloween-themed event at the Antelope Crossing shopping center promises live entertainment, a fun zone, costume contest, prizes, face painting, a pumpkin patch and more. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the shopping center, which is located near Interstate 80 and Antelope Road. (See flier)
