    Sentinel staff report–
The Citrus Heights Police Department and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office were dispatched Friday morning to Madera Park after a body was found hanging from a tree.

Lt. Jason Baldwin told The Sentinel that a call was received around 7:10 a.m. Friday, with responding officers locating a deceased male in the neighborhood park.

Baldwin said it appeared the approximately 40-year-old man committed suicide. An investigation is still ongoing, but police have found no signs of “any foul play involved.”

The identity of the man is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.

“We’re stunned by this turn of events,” the lieutenant said. “We would encourage people who are having thoughts of suicide to contact a suicide hotline or to contact our (9-1-1) dispatch, who are trained to help people in crisis.”

Baldwin said dispatchers can also facilitate contact with the area’s chaplaincy team, if requested.

Anyone considering suicide is urged to reach out for help. A local Suicide Prevention Hotline, operated by WellSpace Health, can be reached at (916) 368-3111. The group says its hotline is also available for those concerned about friends or loved ones who may be suicidal.

According to various suicide prevention resources, warning indicators of suicide can include talking about feeling hopeless, having no reason to live, and other behavior or mood signs.

Deputy Coroners remove the body of a man found dead in a Citrus Heights park, Wednesday.

Citrus Heights police said a man was found dead in Westwood Park near Lichen K-8 school Wednesday morning, with evidence indicating a possible overdose.

Detective Vince Young, who was on-scene investigating Wednesday, described the death as an “unconfirmed overdose” based on evidence found at the scene, but said an official determination would be released later by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office.

Although only able to provide limited information on the incident, the detective said the body was found inside the park fence behind a tennis court and confirmed that CPR had been attempted. He described the man as “middle-aged.”

Neighbors said police arrived to the park around 8 a.m., with coroner deputies seen removing a body bag on a stretcher around 10:30 a.m.

“This park is usually a really nice park,” said resident Lindsay Stanbery, who recently moved near the park where the body was found. “It’s a really good area — that’s why I was so shocked.” She added that loud noise and partying in the park after hours happens “all the time.”

The park is located off Butternut Drive, adjacent to a portion of Interstate 80.

Police said 48-year-old Allen Bocteemus Franks was arrested and charged with murder, after officers found him driving the victim’s minivan near Marysville Boulevard on Tuesday. Police said Franks was detained and questioned before being booked in the Sacramento County Jail for the murder of Kimberly Chittenden.

The incident began Monday afternoon when officers responded to a home on the 7900 block of Rocky Point Court near Kingswood Drive and Sunrise Boulevard, finding Chittenden “unresponsive with visible injuries.” Officers sought to administer “life saving measures” until medical personnel transported her to a hospital where she was pronounced deceased, according to police.

Detectives began investigating on scene due to the victim’s injuries being “consistent with an assault,” with police later requesting assistance from the public and other law enforcement agencies to help locate the victim’s 2008 Honda Odyssey — which was determined to be missing from the garage.

Following the arrest, police said the investigation indicates that Franks and Chittenden knew each other.

Chittenden’s death is the second homicide this month in Citrus Heights, with police making an arrest on March 6 in the shooting death of 22-year-old Shaun Blechinger.
