A 32-year-old man is in custody after an armed robbery and attempted car jacking in the Copperwood Square parking lot over the weekend.
Police Lt. Ken Lewis said officers responded to the Copperwood Square shopping center near the Starbucks parking lot after a report of an armed robbery at about 8 p.m. on Dec. 8.
The victim told police that a man in a vehicle pulled up to a group of people and brandished a firearm, Lewis said. The suspect took a cell phone from a victim, and attempted to carjack a victim’s vehicle, according to police.
As authorities were investigating the armed robbery, Lewis said police were called to a vehicle collision in the 8000 block of Twin Oaks Avenue involving a vehicle matching the description of the suspect in the armed robbery.
Police found a man walking away from the collision and arrested Jacob Finn Dufur, of Sacramento. A firearm and the stolen cell phone were recovered from the suspect, Lewis said.
“It’s always dangerous when we’re dealing with guys with guns,” Lewis said. “I’m happy everybody came away in a relatively safe way.”
Lewis said Dufur is also considered a possible suspect in a similar robbery in Rancho Cordova.
Sacramento County Jail records show Dufur is facing 10 felony charges, including threats to commit a crime resulting in death or great bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, drawing or exhibiting a firearm, attempted carjacking, robbery, prohibited person in possession of a stolen firearm, and concealing a firearm. He also faces three misdemeanors including hit and run with property damage, driving a vehicle under the influence of any drug, and possession of unlawful paraphernalia.
He is ineligible for bail, records show.
