Citrus Heights police were kept busy over the Fourth of July weekend, receiving more than 500 reports about fireworks.
A heavy police presence could be seen in the 7700 block of Sun Hill Drive on the evening of July 4, where officers responded to a report of an individual who allegedly kicked in the door of a residence and ran away. Police Lt. Chad Morris said officers located the individual in a nearby vehicle, and he was taken into custody for a felony warrant and possession of illegal fireworks.
Police said in a statement on social media Wednesday that officers also responded to several traffic collisions, made five arrests for DUI, located three at-risk missing people, and seized over 200 pounds of illegal fireworks throughout the holiday weekend July 4th weekend,
Utilizing an online reporting tool, police said hundreds of reports about illegal fireworks were made. The online reporting system aids police in keeping dispatch lines open for more urgent calls, police said.
A new ordinance in Citrus Heights this year banned all fireworks after 11 p.m., including ones labeled “safe and sane.” Violators faced a first-time violation fine of $750.
