Sentinel staff report–
Citrus Heights police said an 18-year-old suspect is in custody after an early morning home invasion robbery occurred at a senior independent living community off Auburn Boulevard on Friday.

Lt. David Gutierrez said the suspect, whose name has not yet been released, broke into a residence at the Crosswood Oaks apartments on Crosswoods Circle around 1:30 a.m. while the resident was sleeping. The resident awoke while the teen was selecting items to steal and was then assaulted by the suspect.

Police said the victim was left with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. The suspect fled the scene, but was located and arrested by police.

Lt. Gutierrez said the teen will likely be charged with elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon and home invasion robbery. He said additional information is expected to be released later today.

In 2016, another resident at Crosswood Oaks was assaulted during a home invasion robbery. In that case, police arrested a 37-year-old parolee who was convicted of the crime earlier this year and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
