Sacramento Metro Fire crews responded to reports of fire at a Catholic church in Citrus Heights just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
Crews were originally dispatched to two different locations and discovered a small vegetation fire had occurred behind Holy Family Catholic Church. According to fire officials, the vegetation fire was “initially threatening” the church campus and triggered one sprinkler to discharge on one of the buildings on the property.
Smoke could be seen in the air from several blocks away, and at least six fire engines were stationed behind a building in the rear of the church. Several Metro Fire engines were also observed stationed behind the Antelope Creek Apartments, to gain access from Antelope Road.
The church’s property includes a softball diamond, playground, and full basketball court, along with several buildings.
The vegetation fire was extinguished, officials confirmed Wednesday afternoon. No injuries were reported, and there were no threats to life, according to officials.
