Thousands lose power in Citrus Heights amid high winds

Following a widespread Xfinity internet outage reported on Monday, Citrus Heights residents experienced multiple power outages Wednesday morning, according to the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD).

A SMUD outage map showed over 7,200 reported power outages before 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, May 8. Wind speeds ranged from 12 to 26 miles per hour between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and a wind advisory was in effect, according to local weather stations.

Citrus Heights residents reported multiple power outages on social media, including residents living near Sunrise Boulevard and Madison Avenue, Fair Oaks Boulevard and Madison Avenue, and Greenback Lane and Auburn Boulevard. Some residents reported loss of power at local businesses in the area. Others reported power off briefly at the Sunrise Mall.

According to SMUD, power was expected to be restored by 2 p.m. Wednesday. By 4 p.m. outage maps showed only 50 reported outages in the area.
