Garbage trucks, street sweepers, and other heavy equipment will be on display as part of a Public Works Showcase career fair set to take place on May 16 in Citrus Heights.

The city-sponsored event will be held at Van Maren Park from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday. The event is billed as a family-friendly, educational event for students, families, and job seekers. Opportunities to explore booths featuring trade school representatives will be available, as well as information on office and field careers related to public works, ranging from administrative, engineering, heavy equipment operation, and maintenance.

Last year’s Public Works Showcase attracted over 300 people throughout three hours, according to a 2023 Sentinel report. The city said last year that attendees of all ages had the opportunity to participate in hands-on experiences from vendors, including fixing a broken pipe and navigating sewer pipes.

Refreshments and free goodies will be available to participants. Parking is available along Stock Ranch Road and at City Hall, according to the city’s website.

Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA) will have a free, secure bike valet available to those who bike to the event, and attendees who bike can grab additional free goodies in honor of National Bike Month.

Van Maren Park is located at 6601 Thalia Way in Citrus Heights, near the corner of Stock Ranch Road and Fountain Square Drive. For more information about the showcase, visit the city’s website.
