The Citrus Heights Police Department will host a community engagement meeting on Tuesday, May 14, which will include an annual review of military equipment utilized by the department.

According to a post on the Police Department’s official social media account, the annual report includes an inventory and usage report, cost analysis, and public complaints associated with equipment usage.

The Police Department’s goal is to “be transparent and have consistent community engagement,” the department wrote, adding that the meeting gives the public the opportunity to engage with the department directly.

The Police Department hopes a public meeting will help educate the public regarding how and why specific equipment is used.

A military use policy was unanimously passed by the Citrus Heights City Council in 2022. Before its passage, a staff report to the City Council from police indicated the passage of Assembly Bill 481 prompted the proposal to the City Council. The bill requires for a military equipment use policy to be adopted prior to law enforcement agencies “funding, acquiring, or using military equipment.”

The community engagement meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at City Hall.

Citrus Heights City Hall is located at 6360 Fountain Square Drive.
