Sentinel staff report–
Candidates for Sacramento County Board of Education, District 4, are each vying for a seat on the county school board in the March 5 Primary Election.
The district represents Citrus Heights, as well as neighboring communities, with the seven-member county board tasked with setting policy and approving funding, as well as hearing student expulsion appeals and charter school appeals. The office of education has four primary goals, to: prepare students, provide leadership and support to districts and schools in the county, build collaborative partnerships to create schools as “Centers of Wellness,” and monitor program effectiveness.
Five candidates are currently running for the District 4 seat, four of which replied to The Sentinel’s questionnaire and shared their top priorities and endorsements, as well as their position on charter schools and Citrus Heights considering the formation of its own school district.
Candidate Jay Martinez has been endorsed by the Sacramento County Republican Party, while Moe Sarama has earned endorsement from the Democratic Party of Sacramento County. Candidate Linda Christopher-DeWilde has opted to not seek endorsements, while Vanessa Caigoy has earned the support of the California Charter Schools Association Advocates.
