Citrus Heights pair charged in theft of holiday decor

Sentinel staff report–
Davis Police on Friday announced the arrest of Citrus Heights residents Thomas and Michelle Witten after an investigation into a storage unit break-in led detectives to their home.

The suspects, age 45 and 43, have been charged with burglary/conspiracy and were booked at the Yolo County Jail, Davis Police said in a Nov. 17 statement on social media. The pair are accused of stealing more than $3,600 in personal items and holiday decor from a storage unit on the 300 block of Pole Line Road, in Davis.

The Davis Enterprise reported the burglary occurred last month, with detectives then tracing the property back to a home in Citrus Heights where a search warrant was served on Nov. 7. The family who had their items stolen posted surveillance video showing a closeup of the suspects’ faces on a social media crime watch page, CBS Sacramento reported.

The news station said police called the theft recovery a “Christmas miracle,” and quoted a police lieutenant saying: “I’d be lying if [if I said] some of the detectives weren’t singing Christmas carols back in the office when they were going through a lot of this property.”
