Three years after opening the first Northern California location, the Citrus Heights Boston’s Pizza appears to have permanently closed.
Moving trucks were at the location on Monday, Nov. 13 and workers were loading interior furnishings into trailers. None of the workers at the site could comment on the closure of the business.
The business’s Yelp listing shows the restaurant has closed, and a review posted Nov. 8 indicates the restaurant closed sometime in early November.
The franchise location opened in January of 2020, just weeks before pandemic shutdown orders restricted in-person dining, The Sentinel previously reported. Owner Gurtej Gill participated in the city’s Great Plates program, providing meals to qualifying seniors during the shutdowns.
The Canadian-based restaurant chain opened the Citrus Heights location at 5511 Sunrise Blvd. in a building formerly occupied by Logan’s Roadhouse.
Gill did not respond to an email request for comment, but previously told The Sentinel that the first year for the franchise location was a rocky one, noting the impact of pandemic shutdowns in 2020.
“We had just opened about 6 weeks before pandemic hit and had trained our team, (only) to end up losing several team members and (then) rehiring and training again several times through out the year,” Gill said in a prior email.
According to the company’s franchise requirements, a minimum of $1 to $2 million net worth with $500,000 is required to open a location. The total investment can range between $1,023,500 to $2,757,500 according to the company.
