Authorities say a suspect in an unusual Citrus Heights ATM theft two years ago is now in custody after he recently attempted to steal another ATM in Sacramento County with a forklift this year, KCRA reported last week.
The initial theft dates back to a Jan. 7, 2021, report by The Sentinel showing an ATM machine that was ripped out of a Chase Bank by a forklift. The ATM machine and forklift were later located about a half-mile away behind Sunrise Mall, CBS13 reported at the time.
Two adults, Natale Charles Russo and Stevi Lenning, were charged in the most recent ATM theft, which occurred at a North Highlands Safe Credit Union, according to KCRA. Russo is charged with also committing the 2021 theft in Citrus Heights.
Citrus Heights Police Lt. Nicole Garing said she could not comment on the 2021 case, due to it being an open investigation.
Sacramento County jail records show Russo is currently ineligible for bail. His next court date is set for Nov. 17, records show.
