Fatal collision shuts down portion of Greenback Lane on Labor Day

By Mike Hazlip—
A fatal traffic collision involving a truck and a motorcyclist resulted in the closure of westbound Greenback Lane for several hours Monday afternoon as authorities conducted an investigation.

Citrus Heights Police received several reports of the collision involving a truck and a motorcycle just after 11 a.m. on Sept. 4, according to a release by the Police Department. Officers found a truck and motorcycle with “significant damage” along Greenback Lane near Arcadia Drive, the release said.

The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital and was pronounced deceased, police said. The driver of the truck and a passenger were not injured.

Police said illegal drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision, and the driver of the truck remained at the scene and was cooperative with officers.

The identity of the motorcyclist is not being released pending notification of the next of kin, police said.

All westbound lanes of Greenback Lane were closed at Arcadia Drive for several hours following the collision. Police announced the roadway was reopened just before 2:30 p.m.

Witnesses are encouraged to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at (916) 727-5500.
