Sentinel staff report–
Citrus Heights police are investigating another homicide that occurred Thursday night, less than a week after a separate shooting took the life of a 30-year-old woman at an apartment complex on Burich Ave.

In a news release on Friday, police said officers responded to reports of a shooting around 7:15 p.m. on Aug. 31 at a residence near Cherry Creek Manor Park, on the 7100 block of May Ann Way. Officers found a man and woman inside the home who each were suffering from gunshot injuries. Medical aid was provided by first responders, but the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. The man was hospitalized with injuries described as “serious.”

Police said detectives and Crime Scene Investigators have begun an investigation of the shooting, including conducting interviews and collecting evidence. Neither of the individuals were named by police in Friday’s news release.

“Based on the investigation, we know this tragic event was between two individuals who knew each other,” police said. “There are no additional threats of danger to the community, and the suspect is in police custody.”

Police encourage anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Citrus Heights Police Department Crime Tip Line at 916-727-5524, or the Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-HELP (4357) to submit an anonymous tip.

Thursday’s incident is the fourth known fatal shooting in Citrus Heights this year. Arrests have been made in all prior incidents.

A Sentinel review of annual crime reports dating back to 2014 shows homicides in Citrus Heights have hovered between 1-2 per year, with the exception of five homicides in 2015 and four in 2022.
