August Events: What’s happening around Citrus Heights?

Events happening in Citrus Heights this August include a car show at Sunrise Mall, several theatrical performances, a city-sponsored ice cream social at the Sylvan Community Center, and a music and arts event in the Marketplace at Birdcage.

National Night Out. At least 10 different events are planned in various parts of Citrus Heights to celebrate National Night Out, on August 1. See story for more: 2023 National Night Out events planned across Citrus Heights

Family Painting Night. Families are invited to come practice their creativity at a family painting night at Round Table Pizza. The event takes place Saturday Aug. 5 from 12 – 2 p.m. Parents and kids will follow step by step instructions as they learn how to paint a scene called “Fishing by the Bay.” Round Table Pizza is located at 7873 Lichen Drive in Citrus Heights. School Supplies distribution. Free backpacks and school supplies will be distributed to children of single mothers at a Single Mom Strong Backpack event on Aug. 5. Distribution will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Empowerment Center parking lot. Families must register online to receive one backpack per child (limit three per family while supplies last). More information is posted on the organization’s Eventbrite page. The Empowerment Center is located at 7525 Auburn Blvd., suite 5 in Citrus Heights.

Sunrise Mall Car Show. Sacro Locos is hosting a car show at the Sunrise Mall on Aug. 12 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. The event will feature classic cars, food, and other vendors.  Visit the event website for more information. The Sunrise Mall is located at 6041 Sunrise Blvd.

Neighborhood Ice Cream Social. Each month Citrus Heights is hosting an ice cream social event at three different neighborhood park locations where neighbors can connect, learn about ways to chip-in to their community and meet local neighborhood association members. The next Citrus Heights City Scoop ice cream social event will be held at the Sylvan Community Center on Aug. 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, see prior story: City of Citrus Heights hosting free ice cream socials this summer.

Summer Music and Arts. Citrus Heights Arts is hosting a summer music and arts event on Saturday, August 19. The event is slated to take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. near Ulta Beauty in the Marketplace at Birdcage and includes music, arts and crafts vendors, family activities and an indoor art gallery. The Marketplace at Birdcage is located at 5975 Birdcage Centre Lane. See prior story for more: Summer music, arts series coming to Citrus Heights.

Theatrical performances.

  • Royal Stage will be presenting productions of the musical FROZEN Jr. Shows run through Aug. 6. For showtimes and ticket information, visit royalstage.org. The Royal Stage theater is located next to Zumiez in the Sunrise Mall, at 6041 Sunrise Blvd.
  • Theatre in the Heights will be presenting productions of Dead Man’s Cell Phone by Sarah Ruhl. Shows run through Aug. 20. Showtimes vary. For tickets and more information visit the Theatre in the Heights website. Theater in the Heights is located at 8215 Auburn Blvd.

Special Election filing. A Special Election will be held to fill a vacancy on the School Board in Trustee Area 7 of the San Juan Unified School District, with candidate filing open from July 17-August 11. Trustee Area 7 represents a large portion of the City of Citrus Heights and includes San Juan High School and Mesa Verde High. The Special Election will be held on Nov. 7, 2023. Fall Ball. Citrus Heights Little League and Sunrise Little League fall ball registrations are now open. Fall ball is offered for players in the T-ball Division league through the Junior Division league (age 13-14).
