Pursuit of a stolen vehicle on Thursday night led to a standoff at a Citrus Heights home as officers surrounded the location.
Citrus Heights Police Sgt. Shaun Gualco said a stolen vehicle led officers to the 6200 block of Paris St., near Greenback Lane, where police arrested 51-year-old Jason Vogeli after a standoff that lasted less than an hour. Police were seen with guns drawn as a man walked out of the residence with his hands behind his head.
One other man was detained along with three women, but they were later released, Gualco said. One of the women was observed wearing a shirt that said “I enjoy romantic walks to the taco truck.”
The incident began when an officer spotted a vehicle that was reportedly stolen traveling south along Auburn Boulevard near Kanai Avenue, Gualco said. Police pursued the vehicle until the driver pulled over and fled on foot near Greenback Lane and Dewey Drive. Officers found illegal drugs in the vehicle, the sergeant said.
A Sentinel search of Sacramento County Jail records shows Vogeli has been charged with a felony related to receiving a stolen vehicle, as well as a misdemeanor drug charge. His bail has been set at $500,000. None of the other residents were charged, Gualco said.
Two residents who spoke anonymously with The Sentinel said they have seen frequent traffic coming and going from the home at night. Gualco could not confirm a pattern of police activity at the residence, but said a parole agent visited the location in May for a parole violation.
Another resident who asked to be kept anonymous said the neighborhood is typically quiet, with many residents on the street having lived in the area for decades.
