An 82-year-old woman was killed Tuesday night while walking along Antelope Road in Citrus Heights.
In a statement released Tuesday night, Citrus Heights Police said officers from the department’s Traffic Unit responded to multiple 911 calls just after 8 p.m. on June 27 near Auburn Boulevard. Officers found a pedestrian lying on the sidewalk and attempted lifesaving measures, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured, police said.
Eastbound Antelope Road was closed for several hours Tuesday night between Lauppe Lane and Auburn Boulevard as authorities investigated the incident. Police have not released the cause of the collision.
The identity of the pedestrian was not initially released pending the completion of the investigation, police said, but The Sacramento Bee later identified the woman as Vira Zheltonozhko, of Citrus Heights.
Authorities are asking any witnesses to call the Citrus Heights Police Department at (916) 727-5500. The Police Department said drivers are reminded to “be attentive to the roadway” and other motorists.
