Sentinel staff report–
Drivers passing through the intersection of Antelope Road and Auburn Boulevard just after noon on Friday could see smoke and more than a dozen police and fire vehicles outside the Valero gas station, as crews responded to an incident involving a vehicle fire.

Fire Captain Andrew Whaley told The Sentinel that a 911 call came in around 12:15 p.m. regarding a vehicle fire at 5 Star Smog, located next to the gas station at 7700 Auburn Blvd. Arriving crews found a truck that had caught fire inside a smog bay and quickly extinguished the fire with no damage to the structure, Whaley said. Crews also used ladders to access the roof to assess for damage, and secured power.

“A quick acting sprinkler head was able to suppress the fire and keep it from growing,” he said.

Whaley said the heavy response observed is standard for any commercial fire, with five engines, three trucks, two battalion chiefs and an ambulance dispatched to such incidents. At least four additional police units were also dispatched to the scene.
