By Mike Hazlip— Citrus Heights police over the weekend responded to reports of a naked man near Greenback Lane, eventually finding the man in the Birdcage area near Sunrise Mall.
In a phone interview Wednesday, Citrus Heights Police Sgt. William Dunning said officers had initially responded to reports of a naked man in the area of Greenback Lane and San Juan Avenue on Friday, June 9, and later found him in the Birdcage area. The man, identified only as an adult male, was not arrested, but taken for a mental health evaluation, Dunning said.
Police are not releasing the man’s name or any further details, Dunning said. He confirmed that authorities have a Citrus Heights address on file for the individual, but could not confirm if that information is current. Dunning said arresting an individual is not always the best option for law enforcement
“Ultimately, officers want to weigh out what’s the best course of action we can go upon,” Dunning said. “Really, how can we provide this person with the best resources possible — not always does arrest get us to that, sometimes people are in need of other resources.”
