Arrest: Citrus Heights man charged with setting fire to his own home

Fire officials on Tuesday announced the arrest of a resident accused of setting fire to his own home in Citrus Heights over the weekend.

Metro Fire said in a news release that firefighters were dispatched around 6:19 a.m. on Sunday, June 4, regarding a house fire on Basswood Way, located near Lichen K-8 school. Responding crews found a “well involved” fire upon arrival, with one firefighter ending up in the hospital due to burns sustained while fighting the fire.

Metro Fire said arson investigators “determined the fire was intentionally set,” with police assisting in identifying the suspect as Robert Jones, who lived at the residence with his wife.

Jones faces multiple felony charges, including arson causing great bodily injury, arson to an inhabited structure, and the use of a flammable/ignitable substance to set a fire.

Sacramento County Jail records show a Robert Willis Jones, 46, was arrested and booked Sunday night at 11:22 p.m. He is ineligible for bail.
