By Sara Beth Williams– If you’re looking for local activities during the summer when school is out, June is full of theater performances and entertainment and sports events, as well as a comic con event at Sunrise Mall.
Band performance. Residents who enjoy the Citrus Heights Community Marching Band can hear a performance by the local group on Sunday, June 5. The all-volunteer marching band is participating in a Community Band Festival at Carmichael Park over the weekend of June 4-5. The Citrus Heights Community Marching Band is slated to perform Sunday evening at 5 p.m. Carmichael Park is located at 5750 Grant Ave. (See link)
Legends of Rock. Divergence Dance will be hosting a summer showcase called “Legends of Rock,” featuring a variety of ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and musical theater. The event is slated to take place at San Juan High School on June 24 at 2 p.m. The high school is located at 7551 Greenback Ln. (See link for tickets)
A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Theatre in the Heights will be presenting productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, beginning June 2. Showtimes vary and tickets typically sell out quickly. Book Sale. Friends of Sylvan Oaks Library are hosting a book sale on Saturday, June 3 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the community room. The even promises to offer gently used books and DVDs at bargain prices. All proceeds benefit the Friends of Sylvan Oaks Library and Sylvan Oaks Library programs and materials. The library is located at 6700 Auburn Blvd.
Movie Showing. Sylvan Oaks Library is hosting a classic movie event geared for adults on Friday, June 9. “Dark Passage” will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the library’s community room. Youth Football, Cheer. The Jr. Mavericks youth football and cheer program is hosting free football clinics at Tempo Park every Saturday. Car Show. Kars for Kids Car Show is hosting a “Louie Luau” car show on Saturday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant. The event will be Luau-themed with Luau music, vendors, and food. For details, visit the event page. Spaghetti Fundraiser. The Veterans Community Center is hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Saturday, June 24 at 5 p.m. The event will feature live music performed by Moon Glow “Precious Memories” conducted by Air Force Veteran, Tom Carpenter, lead singer and band manager. Grand Opening. Tint World will be celebrating its grand opening in Citrus Heights on June 10. Festivities begin at 2 p.m. and include food, giveaways, and classic and exotic cars on display. Tint World is located on 5948 Auburn Blvd in Citrus Heights. (See event page)
Awards Gala. The Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Annual Best of Citrus Heights awards ceremony on June 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Citrus Heights Community Center. The event will honor the best businesses in Citrus Heights from over 40 categories, determined by votes from the local community. Ticket prices and details can be found on the event page. Comic Con. A Weekend Blender labeled as not your typical Comic Con will be taking place at the Sunrise Mall from June 24-25. The free, family friendly indoor event will feature vendors, a cosplay contest, special guests and more. Visit the event page for details.
