Citrus Heights council members will meet Thursday at City Hall to hold another vote on a work plan for a controversial committee, facilitate a public hearing related to a proposed taproom, vote on proposed budgets, and consider awarding a $5,000 grant to a local performing arts group.
The council’s meeting on May 25 will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a special closed session to discuss undisclosed anticipated litigation in four cases, followed by the council’s regular meeting at 6 p.m.
Military Equipment. The council will review a report from the Police Department showing what military equipment the department owns and how that equipment is authorized to be used, as required by AB 481. Easements. The council will consider approving a request from the city’s general services director and city engineer to give the city engineer “authority to abandon or vacate easements that no longer serve the original intent or public necessity.” A staff report says the proposed action is a best practice that will “minimize the procedural hurdles” associated with vacating easements.
Public Hearing. The Citrus Heights City Council will hold a public hearing regarding a proposed craft beer taproom at Sylvan Corners, prior to considering whether to issue a required Letter of Public Convenience and Necessity to allow the establishment to sell alcohol.
City Budget. The council will consider approving a proposed $69.6 million budget for fiscal year 2023-24 and an $83.8 million budget for the following fiscal year. Both budgets show multi-million dollar surpluses.
Royal Stage. Consideration will be made on whether to approve a $5,000 History & Arts Grant for Royal Stage, a performing arts group that opened inside Sunrise Mall last year.
Sunrise MarketPlace. The council will hear an annual report from the Sunrise MarketPlace Property-Based Business Improvement District, highlighting 2022 and showing the district’s current budget of $1.3 million, about 47% of which goes to marketing and events.
Education Committee. Another attempt will be made to get majority approval for a draft work plan for a new Citrus Heights Education Committee, which will look into the feasibility of creating a new school district. Approval of the work plan failed last month on a 2-2 vote with Vice Mayor Bret Daniels absent, but it is expected to pass with all council members present.
The May 25 council meeting meeting will also include a presentation by Republic Services, recognizing high school scholarships winners.
