Citrus Heights Vice Mayor Bret Daniels formally announced last week that he will again run for the congressional seat currently held by Ami Bera.
In a May 18 press release, Daniels, a Republican, said he will challenge Bera for his seat to represent the sixth congressional district in 2024. If elected, Daniels said he will fight to lower taxes, reduce “unnecessary regulations,” champion manufacturing, and strengthen the military.
Daniels noted his experience on the Citrus Heights City Council, where he served from 1999 to 2005, and returned in 2016. The vice mayor and congressional hopeful said he lives in the district and has sat on a number of local boards that include the Solid Waste Authority, Sacramento Air Quality District, and Sacramento Cable Commission, among others.
In the 2022 primary election, Daniels placed third with 11.6 percent of the vote, coming in behind Republican Tamika Hamilton and Democrat Ami Bera, according to Ballotpedia. Bera later won in the November 2022 election with 55.9 percent of the vote.
Daniels will host a campaign kick-off reception for his 2024 congressional bid at Stones Gambling Hall on Wednesday.
