Goats and sheep will be grazing in Citrus Heights later this month to aid with weed abatement in various areas of the city.
“It’s great because these goats and sheep are able to do a lot of the weed control that we’d otherwise have to use manpower and equipment for,” said Citrus Heights City Manager Ash Feeney in an update to the council on May 11. “It’s less noisy, it’s better for the environment, and people like to see them.”
Feeney said the animals will be in town between May 22 to June 2, and will be grazing at the old Sylvan Middle School site near Sylvan Corners, as well as in the Twin Oaks-Crestmont-Moss Oak open space.
In prior years, the city has also hired goats to clear the open fields around Citrus Heights City Hall.
