A Wednesday-night shooting spree began at a Citrus Heights business before extending into Placer County.

Officers responded to the Auto Zone at 8129 Auburn Blvd., after a 911 call came from the location at about 8:45 p.m. on April 12, according to a police news release. The release said someone inside the business called 911 asking police to investigate a murder, then hung up.

A witness at the scene who did not want to be identified told The Sentinel he saw a man leave the business and fire about seven rounds as he fled. The witness stated the man appeared to be mentally unstable.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

Jackson Pinney

Police identified the suspect as 30-year-old Jackson Adam Pinney of Hayward through a vehicle description and DMV records, the release said. Pinney reportedly then went on to fire shots at another Citrus Heights business further north on Auburn Boulevard before moving into Placer County where he fired shots at two additional locations, police said.

Roseville police said in a Thursday release that officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Sunrise Boulevard and Douglas Boulevard just before 9 p.m., then another call for shots fired at Kaiser Hospital further east on Douglas Boulevard.

No injuries were reported at either location, police said.

Pinney was driving a gold colored 2002 Ford F-150 with a black soft tonneau cover and the license plate number 6V04299, the release said. The suspect is also believed to be wanted in connection with threats against the State Capitol building in downtown Sacramento.

The capitol was evacuated Thursday morning for about an hour in response to what authorities say was a credible threat, KTXL reported. Pinney is the suspect in that incident, according to the report.

Pinney was arrested Thursday afternoon after being located in Granite Bay, according to multiple media reports.
