Coroner releases name of man found dead in Sayonara Drive apartment

By Mike Hazlip—
A man found dead in a Citrus Heights apartment last week has been identified by authorities, but details about what led to his death remain unclear.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified 33-year-old Jason Tanom Simmons as the victim in a March 20 incident that police are investigating as a homicide.

The cause of death has not been released, police say, citing an ongoing investigation.

As previously reported, officers responded to 7800 block of Sayonara Drive at about 6:45 p.m. on March 20. Police believe the act was targeted, according to Lt. Michael Wells.

“This does not appear to be a random event and there is no increased risk to the community,” Wells said.

In a phone call on March 28, police said no new information was available to release, but indicated more details could be released later this week.

Police are encouraging anyone with information related to this incident to contact Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 1-800-AA-CRIME to submit an anonymous tip. Tips leading to an arrest may earn a cash reward, police said.
