Latest news briefs include local reports of unusual streaks of light in the sky, a Citrus Heights nonprofit being featured on CBS 13 for a prom-themed shopping spree, and a former police officer filing a complaint against the Citrus Heights Police Department.

CBS 13 reported last weekend that The Glass Slipper is hosting a “say yes to the prom dress” event to give girls in foster care a free prom-themed shopping event. (See story)

Streaks of light on Friday night likely was ‘space junk’
Reports of streaks of light through the sky seen in Citrus Heights and elsewhere around 9:30 p.m. on Friday was likely space debris entering earth’s atmosphere. An astronomer cited by CBS 13 said the debris had been orbiting for several years. (See full story)

Former officer files complaint against CHPD
Fox40 reported Thursday that a former police officer with the Citrus Heights Police Department has filed a formal complaint against the department, alleging racial discrimination. The officer, Retuquel Dupree, was reportedly put on leave and then let go after the mother of his children alleged he had pushed her. Fox40 said the mother later sought to recant her initial report, but Dupree was still let go.

The department said in a statement that it does not comment on personnel matters and said any actions the department takes are for “non-discriminatory reasons.” (See video report)
