An incident on Saturday night in Citrus Heights involving a disturbance and report of a gun at the Raising Cane’s restaurant on Greenback Lane prompted a police response and helicopter assistance.
Initial reports on social media about the incident indicated someone had been shot at the scene, but a police lieutenant said those claims were not true.
Police Lt. Michael Wells told The Sentinel in a phone call Monday that officers were called to the restaurant location at 7804 Greenback Ln. just before 8 p.m. on March 4. He said an intoxicated man had fallen and cut his head during a disturbance at the restaurant.
Wells said two others accompanying the man had taken him out of the restaurant after employees asked them to leave. Once police arrived, the intoxicated man fled on foot while the other two men drove away. Police then contacted the intoxicated man near the scene.
One of the employees reported seeing a gun in the waistband of one of the men, prompting police to request aerial support and track down the vehicle. Police then conducted a traffic stop at Greenback Lane and Fountain Square Drive, Wells said. One of two occupants of the vehicle was found to have a BB gun in his waistband.
Wells said no crime was committed and the vehicle did not appear to be evading police. No arrests were made, police said, and the men were cited for trespassing and given a warning about carrying a BB gun.
“No shooting, nothing along those lines,” Wells said. “It came out as kind of a lot bigger than what it actually ended up being. Just a little confusing with one subject running and the other two getting into a car. It wasn’t a pursuit or anything like that, they were just leaving once the altercation was over with.”
