Sentinel staff report–
Grand Oaks Elementary in Citrus Heights remained closed Tuesday due to “ongoing power outages,” according to school district officials.

“School and all activities are CANCELLED today at Grand Oaks Elementary in Citrus Heights and John Barrett Middle School in Carmichael due to ongoing power outages,” the San Juan Unified School District said in a post on social media just after 6 a.m. Tuesday. “All programs including before and after school activities will NOT be held.”

The district said families of affected students would be notified directly and said a followup update would be provided Tuesday evening regarding whether classes will resume Wednesday.

Grand Oaks Elementary is located at 7901 Rosswood Drive, near Rusch Park. The district said in an update Monday that multiple schools in the district faced storm damage from high winds and rain in the region over the weekend.

Photos shared by the district showed crews working to clean up damage to prepare for classes to resume Jan. 10, following Winter Break. All schools in the district resumed classes Tuesday, except for Grand Oaks Elementary and John Barrett Middle School.
