Mom charged with DUI after collision injures 7-year-old daughter

By Mike Hazlip—
A vehicle traveling near the Chuck E. Cheese restaurant in Citrus Heights last week collided with a parked pickup truck, sending a seven-year-old girl to the hospital while the girl’s mother was taken into custody.

The collision occurred Thursday night, Dec. 8, at about 8:30 p.m., according to police Sgt. Janet Schaefer. The girl is being treated at a local hospital, she said in a phone call Wednesday.

Despite reports on social media, Schaefer said the girl was not thrown through the windshield of the vehicle. The mother was charged with driving under the influence and child endangerment.

Resident Justin Rudd said he was home at the time of the collision and heard a loud bang. Rudd, who says he is an EMT, went to the scene to render aid and called 911. The collision damaged Rudd’s pickup truck, shoving it into another vehicle parked in front of his along Sun Hill Drive.

A local hospital contacted by The Sentinel by email could not confirm the girl’s condition citing privacy concerns.
