Citrus Heights police share 8 tips to help prevent package theft

Sentinel staff report–
In addition to deploying location-tracked “bait” to trap package thieves and other criminals, the Citrus Heights Police Department is advising the public of eight ways to reduce the chance of having a package stolen this holiday season.

In a social media post following Thanksgiving police offered the following tips for preventing package theft:

  1. Track packages and sign up for alerts.
  2. Have packages delivered to a lockbox or utilize ship-to-store.
  3. Require signature for delivery.
  4. Consider an alternate shipping address.
  5. Have a trusted neighbor pick up your package if you’re not home.
  6. Use security cameras.
  7. Be a good neighbor and look out for one another.
  8. Call police to report crime or suspicious activity.

In responses to the police department’s post on Facebook, one woman said her daughter took a photo of a suspicious vehicle after it appeared to be following a delivery truck. In a response, police credited the daughter with being observant and encouraged sending a photo in to police via Facebook messenger.
