Sentinel staff report–
Several close races in the Citrus Heights City Council election will be decided this Thursday, as elections officials are slated to release final results by 4 p.m. on Dec. 8.

In an update Friday, results show MariJane Lopez-Taff increased her slim 8-vote lead to a 17-vote lead over Michael Nishimura in the race for District 2. In District 5, Mayor Porsche Middleton also increased her lead from 23 votes to a 30-vote lead over contender Natalee Price.

The District 4 race has remained clear since election night, with former councilwoman Jayna Karpinski-Costa holding her lead with 49% of the vote in a three-way race for the open seat.

Another batch of vote counts will be released on Tuesday, prior to final results on Dec. 8, according to a statement on Sacramento County’s elections website. Less than 2,100 ballots remain to be counted, countywide.

Following final vote totals being released, the city is slated to seat newly elected council members the same night, during the Dec. 8 City Council meeting.
