Construction is now complete on a new playground and basketball court at Tempo Community Park. The previous playground was more than 20 years old and portions of the playground that needed repairs had been closed off to the public in the past due to safety concerns.
Renovation was part of a $312,000 upgrade project, with design beginning in April 2021, according to Sunrise Recreation and Park District administrator Dave Mitchell. In an email to The Sentinel, Mitchell cited supply chain issues with playground parts manufacturers for delays in completing the project in a timely manner.
The new construction includes a basketball half-court, which was completed first, a small playground for younger children, a larger playground next to it, and a set of swings.
