The San Juan Unified School District is seeking to fill dozens of job vacancies, according to postings at a popular education job listing website.
Available positions include everything from substitute instructional assistants, to database administrators, postings at edjoin.org show. The following is an overview of some of the positions San Juan Unified has available, as of Nov. 9, although available positions fluctuate daily.
Substitute employees:
The district is looking for multiple substitute positions, including guest teachers, secretaries, child development assistants, custodians, campus monitors, bus attendants and nutrition services workers. All substitute positions are part time, on-call as needed, and multi-site.
Wages for part-time classified employees vary, depending on the position and the applicant’s prior experience. Certified guest teachers can earn between $200 and $250 per day.
Maintenance positions:
The district is hiring permanent positions in the field of maintenance, including a Grounds Operations & Maintenance supervisor, custodians, grounds maintenance workers, a roofer, an equipment mechanic, junior mechanic, pool maintenance mechanic, and a heating and air conditioning tech.
Monthly pay ranges from $2,823 to $4,699 per month. For supervisor positions, pay ranges from $5,115 to $6,494 per month, and $4,362 to $5,526 for HVAC tech positions. Wages and application requirements depend on the position and prior experience.
Bilingual instructional assistants:
According to Edjoin.org, SJUSD held a hiring event in October for several bilingual instructional assistant positions. Much of those positions are still available and the deadline lists ‘Until Filled.” The district is seeking instructional assistants who are fluent in Pashto, Persian, Russian, Ukrainian and Spanish. Applicants must be fluent in English as well.
Pay begins at $15 an hour, and the positions are listed as part-time, but SJUSD is offering healthcare benefits and up to $1,500 as a hiring bonus. Visit Edjoin.org’s list of bilingual positions to view specific application requirements.
Other classified staff:
There are several part-time instructional assistant positions available throughout the district. Other classified positions include, bus drivers, intermediate typist clerks, secretaries, and nutritional service workers. A sign language interpreter is also being sought, with an hourly wage that starts at $21.93 per hour.
Coaches:
Several schools are looking for head coaches. Bella Vista High School is looking for several boys’ lacrosse coaches. El Camino High School is looking for a junior varsity baseball head coach and a track coach. Head coaches receive district stipends.
Certified staff:
The district is looking for full-time positions, including several counselors, speech language pathologist and social worker positions, a school nurse, preschool teacher, kindergarten teacher, fourth grade teacher, an elementary music teacher, a high school music and band teacher, a middle school art teacher, a high school math teacher, and many more. Full-time teachers, counselors and speech and language pathologists, if hired, are placed on the certified salary schedule and pay will depend on prior experience.
Positions in Citrus Heights:
The district is seeking an elementary art teacher who would travel to 3 schools, including Mariposa Elementary. Kingswood K-8 is seeking an intervention teacher and a mild/mod special education teacher. Mariposa Elementary is also seeking a mild/mod special education teacher. Mesa Verde High School is seeking a Spanish teacher.
Woodside K-8 is seeking an instructional assistant and Carriage Drive Elementary is seeking a part time instructional assistant III position, with a beginning wage of $16.28 per hour. Sunrise Tech Center, an adult education facility located on Sunrise Boulevard, is hiring a bilingual instructional assistant who speaks Persian. Wages begin at $15 an hour for many of the instructional assistant positions.

According to Edjoin.org, SJUSD has the third highest number of vacancies of districts within Sacramento County. Sacramento Unified School District tops the list at 168 vacancies, as of Nov. 9, 2022.
