Sunday Funday draws crowd to Rusch Park
Residents braved the warmer-than-average weather to attend Sunday Funday on Sept. 25. The once-annual event returned to Rusch Park on Sunday, Sept. 25 after a two-year hiatus due to pandemic-related restrictions. Residents enjoyed a beer garden, where live music played from Austin Mo and Canaan Smith. Food trucks and vendors lined the walkways and wrapped around the playground adjacent to the baseball diamonds, and kids enjoyed inflatable bounce houses and obstacle courses.
Planning Commission holds public hearing over controversial ban
Planning commissioners on Wednesday heard testimony from both sides during a public hearing over a proposed “zoning overlay” that would prohibit new auto-intensive uses like car washes and gas stations from setting up in the Sunrise MarketPlace commercial district. Several residents and a representative from El Tapatio restaurant spoke in support of the ban, while two business representatives opposed the ban and the Sunrise MarketPlace board remained neutral. Commissioners voted 4-0 to pass a recommendation on to the City Council in support of the ban.
Obituary: Antonia E. Bustos (1934-2022)
Citrus Heights resident Antonia Bustos passed away on Sept. 23 at the age of 88, according to an obituary published Wednesday online. She was born in New Mexico and later moved to California where she raised three children. She is remembered for making everyone feel welcome and is survived by her husband of 68 years, two of her children, as well as grandchildren and great-grand children. (See full obituary)
