Updated Oct. 12, 11:29 a.m.– Community events in Citrus Heights are in full swing this October, including a theater production, film festival, fundraiser and volunteer opportunities, culminating with a series of Halloween trunk or treat and harvest festivals.
Bogart Film Festival: Theatre in the Heights is hosting its fifth annual Bogart Film Festival and will be airing multiple Humphrey Bogart films beginning Friday evening, Oct. 7, and running through Sunday, Oct. 9. Admission is free, no reservations are required, and seating is first-come, first serve. Popcorn and drinks will be available.

Oktoberfest Fundraiser: An Oktoberfest fundraiser is being held at the Citrus Heights Community Center on Oct. 7 from 4:30 to 9 p.m. and will benefit Stanford Sierra Youth & Families. The event will feature fine brews and food. The Citrus Heights Community Center is located at 6300 Fountain Square Drive.

Funtopia: A free Halloween “Hootenanny Funtopia” event will be held at the Citrus Town Center on Saturday, Oct. 8. Activities will last from 10 a.m. to noon and will include games, balloon animals, arts and crafts, prizes and more.

Fall Carnival: The Midway of Fun fall carnival will return to Sunrise Mall from Oct. 14-23, with carnival rides and game booths. The carnival will be open 4-10 p.m. on weekdays, and 1-10 p.m. on weekends. (Learn more)
Fall Volunteer Event: Volunteers are invited to help spread bark and plant trees in the community on Oct. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Old Auburn Road and Wintergreen Drive. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Full event information can be found on the city’s events calendar. (click here)
Howl-O-Ween Parade: The Citrus Heights Community Marching Band will host its annual Howl-O-Ween Parade and Harvest festival on Oct. 15. The event will feature a parade from Twin Oaks Avenue and Auburn Boulevard to Rusch Park, Halloween music, pet adoptions, kids’ activities, and a car show at Rusch Park.

Toys R Us opening inside Macy’s: Toys R Us is opening a toy “store inside a store” inside Macy’s at the Sunrise Mall. To celebrate, the famous toy store will be hosting in-store family friendly activities and daily giveaways of popular Toys R Us brands and products. The events run from Oct. 15 through Oct 23, according to a company press release. Macy’s is located at 6000 Sunrise Mall, in Citrus Heights. (See news release)

The Ghost Tour: Mesa Verde High School theater will be putting on The Ghost Tour, with theater students performing Oct. 20 and 21, and Mesa Verde alumni theater students performing on Oct. 22. The “tour” will begin in the Performing Arts Center on Mesa Verde’s campus. Tickets are $5 at the door. Parking is free.

Citrus Heights’ 25th anniversary concert: The City of Citrus Heights and Capitol Pops are celebrating 25 years., with a free concert at City Hall. The anniversary event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. and will feature festive music by the Capitol Pops. (See event page)
Coat Drive: The Citrus Heights Homeless Resource Team (HART) will be out at the Sunrise Mall Farmer’s Market on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. collecting new and gently used winter coats. The coats will go to SJUSD students in need.
Trunk or Treats: Several organizations are hosting Trunk-or-Treat events in the last week of October.
- The City of Citrus Heights is hosting a trunk or treat in the Citrus Heights Police Department parking lot, located on Fountain Square Drive, from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
- St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, located on Kingswood Drive in Citrus Heights, is hosting a trunk or treat in their parking lot on Friday, Oct., 28 from 6 to 8 p.m.
- Heights Church, located on Sylvan Road in Citrus Heights, is hosting a trunk or treat from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28.
- Celtic Cross Presbyterian Church will also host a free trunk or treat event on Oct. 30, from 4-6 p.m., located at 5839 Dewey Drive.
Other events. A free COVID-19 vaccine and flu shot clinic will also be held at the Citrus Heights Community Center on Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., hosted by Sacramento County (see link).
