As part of a more than $300,000 upgrade project, construction is underway on a new playground for Tempo Community Park on Fair Oaks Boulevard. The playground is currently fenced off and only partially completed.
Dave Mitchell, district administrator with Sunrise Recreation and Park District, said in an email to The Sentinel that construction should be completed within the next month. The initial project went into design in April of 2021.
A new half-court basketball court across from the playground was included in the design plans, and has already been completed. The total budget for the combined construction of the basketball court and playground was $312,000.
The previous playground was more than two decades old, and portions of the playground that needed repairs had been closed off to the public in the past due to safety concerns. Mitchell cited supply chain issues with playground parts manufacturers for delays in completing the project in a timely manner. He noted that all playground parts have now arrived, which will allow the project to move forward toward completion.
Tempo Community Park sits on almost 24 acres, and includes multiple covered and uncovered picnic tables, a reservable picnic area, tennis courts, soccer fields, and a garden and nature area. The acreage also includes multiple paved walkways that lead into nearby neighborhoods for easy access.
Tempo Community Park is located at 13125 Fair Oaks Blvd. in Citrus Heights, and is planned to connect with other parks once the new Arcade Cripple Creek multi-use trail is completed.
