Police on Wednesday announced a suspect in the death of a 22-year-old Citrus Heights woman who was shot while working the night shift at a Sacramento gas station last month.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified Janiah Tanae Johnson of Citrus Heights as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Aug. 3, 2022. Johnson was working at Speedway gas station in the 2600 block of Gateway Oaks Drive when the shooting occurred, according to a report by The Natomas Buzz.
A release by the Sacramento police department says officers responded to the location shortly before 12:23 a.m. after a report of a shooting. Officers found one victim and attempted life saving measures, but the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sacramento Bee reported Wednesday that police have identified Rashawn Maurice Anderson as the suspect. Anderson is wanted for murder and authorities are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact police at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357).
The victim’s sister, Taraejhana Gray, told ABC10 that Johnson was an aspiring rapper who moved to Citrus Heights to further her career. Johnson was killed just one week after her 22nd birthday, Gray said.
Police said the shooting was an isolated incident.
Those living in the typically quiet Natomas community where the shooting occurred expressed shock and surprise, according to a report from CBS13.
