By Sara Beth Williams– Events are finally making a full comeback in Citrus Heights this month, with September including a traveling circus at the mall, the showing of a new play at Theatre in the Heights, Sunday Funday at Rusch Park, a spaghetti fundraiser at the Community Center, the grand opening of a new performing arts center, and more.
San Juan Unified Community Forum: Interested Citrus Heights residents are invited to share thoughts and input regarding the school district’s next choice for superintendent at a community forum on Sept. 8 at Mesa Verde High School. The forum begins at 6 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. An online session is also available on Sept. 8. Visit the district’s website to RSVP for the event.
Mesa Verde is located at 7501 Carriage Drive. Through Sept. 9, input is also being accepted online via a Thoughtexchange.
Employment Fair. Residents looking for work are invited to attend an employment fair at the Citrus Heights Community Center on Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Job seekers will learn how to apply for state employment, develop interview skills, and practice resume writing. Employees from the public and private sectors will be on hand to interact with job seekers.

Circus at Sunrise Mall. The Caballero Circus is coming to the Sunrise Mall Sept. 1-12 and will present shows daily, with special afternoon shows scheduled for Labor Day Weekend.

Royal Stage Grand Opening. Royal Stage Performing and Visual Arts is inviting community members to the grand opening of their new theater space on Friday, Sept. 9. Between 4:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. attendees can check out the new theater, view the ribbon cutting ceremony, and be one of the first to leave your autograph backstage. Light refreshments will be served.

The Fox on the Fairway. Theater in the Heights invites residents to attend Ken Ludwig’s “The Fox on the Fairway,” which opens Sept. 9 and runs through Oct. 2.

National Day of Service: Residents are invited to bring a pair of work gloves and help clean up Rusch Park on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in celebration of National Day of Service. Projects include, painting benches, restroom buildings, curbs, and the playground, spreading and raking bark, trimming roses in the rose garden and general weeding and cleanup.

9/11 Memorial Service: Sylvan Cemetery will be holding a 9/11 memorial service in remembrance of the attacks that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001. The service will be held Sunday, Sept. 11, at 8:15 a.m. in the gazebo area. Sylvan Cemetery is located at 7401 Auburn Blvd.
Candidate Forum. On Sept. 13, the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce will hold a candidate forum for all nine City Council candidates, from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will be held at Heights Church, located at 6540 Sylvan Rd.
HART Spaghetti Feed fundraiser: Citrus Heights Homeless Assistance Resource Team (HART) invites community members to a spaghetti dinner on Friday, Sept. 23 at the Citrus Heights Community Center. Funds raised will go toward housing assistance, student services and the homeless outreach navigator. The evening will feature live music, a silent auction, dessert auction and a raffle.
The Community Center is located at 6300 Fountain Square Drive. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Advanced tickets should be purchased by Sept. 9. Tickets at the door may be limited. For more information click here.
Sunday Funday: The City of Citrus Heights and Sunrise Recreation and Parks District invite the pubic to enjoy a free event with fun for the whole family. The family fun event will take place on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature live music from Canaan Smith, food trucks, inflatables, vendors, tours of the historic Rusch Home and more. A tree planting ceremony is also scheduled to take place in honor of the City of Citrus Heights’ 25th anniversary of cityhood. *Note: this event was originally slated to include music from Thompson Square, but the schedule has since been updated.
