The Metro Fire station on Grand Oaks Avenue near Auburn Boulevard was struck by a vehicle on Wednesday night, causing damage to a living room where firefighters were sitting inside.
The damage to Station 27 was shown in photos posted by the fire district on Facebook, with the vehicle involved reportedly causing “approximately 2’ of intrusion into the living room” of the station.
“Thankfully there were no injuries, but unfortunately the vehicle did flee the incident,” Metro Fire said in the post.
Officials said a new wall and window were slated to be installed on Friday. Metro Fire credited its Facilities Division for a quick response to the incident.
“Whether it be ensuring our firehouse kitchens are operational to cook meals for the crews, the HVAC is up and running to keep our members warm or cool throughout the year, our electrical systems are able to keep up with the demand, or structural incidents such as this,” the district said on social media. “We are so grateful for your hard work, dedication, professionalism and service to our Metro Fire family.”
