The Citrus Heights Police Department received unanimous approval from the City Council last week to spend up to $417,000 to purchase six new vehicles.
The make and model of the vehicles to be purchased was not stated in the request to the council, but a staff report from the council’s Dec. 9 agenda packet shows funds will be used to purchase four marked and two unmarked police vehicles. Equipping the vehicles for police use is included in the price. The new vehicles will have full factory warranty, the document says.
The request came after an analysis by the Police Department projected vehicle needs over the next ten years. One police vehicle in need of replacement was totaled, and five additional vehicles had high mileage and require frequent repairs, according to the report.
The department said its vehicles typically have a four-to-five year lifecycle, “due to the high frequency of use and the constant demanding conditions.”
Funds will come from monies already included in the fiscal year 2021-22 and 2022-23 budgets. There will be no additional impact to the budget, according to the staff report.
