Citrus Heights police are investigating an attempted carjacking that occurred in a residential neighborhood Monday night when an unknown male suspect struck a woman in the head while in her driveway.
The incident occurred on Nov. 29 near Brooktree Park on the 6000 block of Dunmore Avenue. Police Lt. Chad Morris said in an email that officers were dispatched to the location around 7:20 p.m. and conducted an extensive area search, but were not able to locate the suspect.
Morris said the assault is being investigated as an attempted carjacking. As of Tuesday afternoon, he said no one had been arrested. Due to darkness, he said the suspect was only described as “a male wearing a dark-colored hoodie.”
According to witnesses at the scene, the woman who was assaulted went to a neighbor for first aid and was seen bleeding from the head as she returned to her home a short time later. She was transported to an area hospital for medical evaluation, Morris said.
A Sentinel reporter who lives near the scene observed a heavy police presence near Brooktree Park, and a helicopter circling overhead.
In a statement to police, the woman said she had been next to her vehicle in her driveway when a man came up behind her and hit her on the head with an object. The man then demanded the vehicle’s keys and hit her in the face before fleeing on foot, she said.
