Following reports of a new drug called “paint” being sold to students at Mesa Verde High School, the Citrus Heights Police Department said in a news release Friday that a juvenile has been arrested in connection with the sales.
Police said the department was notified by the school on Tuesday about the substance being sold to several students. During the course of an investigation, police said an arrest was made and the substance was “seized and sent to the crime lab.”
The department said illicit drugs are “frequently rebranded and remarketed under different names and in different forms which can complicate their identification.” Police are awaiting test results from the crime lab to determine what the substance is.
The name of the juvenile who was arrested has not been released, due to the individual’s age.
Police said parents are encouraged to speak with their children about “dangers of handling or ingesting unknown substances.” The department also said parents are encouraged to contact law enforcement before attempting to handle illicit substances.
The high school earlier this week sent out notification to parents describing the drug as a pill with “psychedelic effects and is known to be highly addictive.” CBS Sacramento reported that the pill is clear, with red/brown dust inside, and said it was being sold for $5.
